In a recent interview with the Guardian, alas, my attempt to explain this was turned upside down into a "blogging is one of the biggest perils" message. Sigh. I think they took their lead from an unfortunate BBC article, which for some reason stressed concerns about the web rather than excitement, failure modes rather than opportunities. (This happens, because when you launch a Web Science Research Initiative, people ask what the opportunities are and what the dangers are for the future. And some editors are tempted to just edit out the opportunities and headline the fears to get the eyeballs, which is old and boring newspaper practice. We expect better from the Guardian and BBC, generally very reputable sources)

Well I don't seem to be able to fix the link, but it is right next to the article so use it or not.

Well, what I listened to was Tim at the link provided next to the BBC article. He did at one point say the words "...blogs, which are bad" . It occurs toward the end of the first half. If this item gets much more burdened with the RWG, I will simply delete it.

But those were his words, even if cherry picked! Those were his concerns. Seth's clip demonstrating distortions possible in blogs is exactly what he was complaining about in the BBC article.
Huh? You knew that i quoted Tim Berners-Lee's blog above, right? I posted that exact quote from his bog to refute your words " I don't think he likes blogs". Your point escapes me.
Yep - I guess it would, ... sigh .
If both the thing seth quoted & the words the BBC quoted are in fact Tim's words, they present a dichotomy. Seth's quote, if true, presents exactly what Tim complained about for blogs.

Well what Tim actually did say in his breadcrumbs blog casts anything you got from the BBC article in extreme doubt. Tim, above all people, certainly knows that blogs can spread misinformation. But was he complaining about that as you assert ? I think not. Where is your evidence? I guess your point is that your own misunderstanding, which you got from the BBC article, is an example of what Tim is complaining about ... but me thinks that even that is a misunderstanding of what Tim is saying. My impression, that i get from his blog and his other writings, is that he is concerned with a network of trust and how hyperlinking and bookmarking reliable pages can work to create that trust network. He assumes that people will misquote and distort and does not complain about it, but rather talks of that which can work against that kind of distortions. What i did, quote him exactly and hyperlink to his actual words, is one of the things that works against what you are complaining about.

Well what he actually said was about the new science he is trying to create ...
source: Tim Berners-Lee transcribed by Seth Russell from BBC podcast.
... "we really must have a science of understanding this .... we must be able to look at whether it is going to continue to serve as well or whether we will end up with things that suddenly appear overnight, just like the blogs did, but which in fact are very bad ... maybe we will get the equivalent of something like spam which we really hate or we will find some very undemocratic things start happening and misinformation suddenly seems to be taking over the web" ...
