proposed use of the tag (to delete)

I propose that we tag items with "to delete" to show our intention in a group that this item is not wanted or has already fulfilled its purpose and now is just cluttering up the room.

The convention is: if nobody takes that tag off the item and justifies its existance within some group agreed upon time (i'd say 24 hours or less), then anybod can work the tag room deleting items and cleaning up the group. For example: Test and QA/tags/to delete

Now i realize that this breaks one of Tim BernerLee's edicts that cool uri never die. The down side of that web axiom is that we live in a very cluttered web. I say that should not be imposed upon a group. ..... hmmm ... i just though of how we can get the best of both worlds and it comes from one of Mark's suggestions: when an item is deleted, it is just flagged as delete in the db, but not actually deleted from the db. Now we can choose not to show that item in rooms but we can show it in its permalink. I'm gonna make that an official .2wish :)))))

may want to permanently delete spam. the choice of what is spam is up to the webmaster

Mark de LA says
customer then hasto remember the permalink, eh ?

Seth says
No, don't need to remember it per se ... if you want to preserve the web's knowledge of that item, .... well then hyper fucking link to it

I would say that it is up to the group in which the item is asserted.

Mark de LA says
well, how much do you want to pay to store a river of spam ?

Mark de LA says
hmmm.... just exactly how does a person "hyper fucking link" to an item ? (;-)))

Seth says
I think it would be reasonable to completely delet an item that is deleted and tagged as ~spam

Mark de LA says
if it's "up to the group" how do you sometimes permanently delete an item ?

Mark de LA says
ok we overlapped again - sounds good.

Mark de LA says
is the tilda \~ reserved - if so then how does a group ("up to a group") have access to it ?

Seth says
Just got an idea .... if somebody hyper fucking links to an item that has been deleted and has been tagged ~spam, then the system could substitute a anti spam for that page. It has all the knowledge it needs to do so. Sho if someone spams with wallmart.com, the system would show them a permalink to KMART. How is that for demotivating spam ?

Mark de LA says
sounds good - creeping up on awesome ! need to see it in action !

Mark de LA says
A lot of spammers, like the people who spammed the wiki, use another server to spam from. However, there is nothing to discourage us from using this convention to demotivating the targets for whom these sites are spamming.
