Report Documents ExxonMobil's Tobacco-like Disinformation Campaign on Global Warming Science

Exxon Mobil is an excellent target for Mark's selective spending initiative ...

"ExxonMobil needs to be held accountable for its cynical disinformation campaign on global warming," said Meyer.  "Consumers, shareholders and Congress should let the company know loud and clear that its behavior on this issue is unacceptable and must change."
The fact that humans are changing Earth's climate is not a secret that can be swept under the rug in smoke filled rooms for the short term profit of a few.  No, rather it is an  idea that should be used to transform the way we develop our future industries.  It is time for man to take hold of the reins of our stewardship of planet Earth.  Do i think that a boycott of Exxon will help? ... probably not.  But getting the message to directors sitting in the boardrooms that obstruction of science for short term gain will be exposed to the determent of their corporation , probably will help.

Well, yes, you do need to explain the difference between selective spending and boycott where it comes to producing social change.

Actually, in spite of the ability to confuse the two, selective spending is not a boycott. In my case I would probably use my $-vote to buy gasoline from Exxon if your article has any truth in it! Selective spending is best grokked in the words of cfr in the original 3417. I may yet have to explain the separation. To treat selective spending as a boycott is like expecting my ego & personal choices to transform all egoes & personal choices of those I am in contact with.

Actually it is quite simple in the context of a vote. With an election you would vote aligned with your own spiritual imprint - vote your conscience - (manipulated by the information you have via media etc.) rather than a party line vote. You do not always get the results you want because the majority rules.  A boycott in this context would be similar to voting according to the information manipulated (some side's party line) via the media rather than your own spirit & personal knowledge, information & reasoning. I expect, in advocating selective spending, that the country & even the world would be a lot better off if each person put his own particular spiritual imprint on the way things are done rather than follow the win-loose media & boycotts produce.  See my dangerous idea for more.
Even more simple it is individuality versus the mob action!
