Turkey circa 1860

Zoom.

Turkey is shown here in the 1860 Johnson & Browning Atlas (page 82 Asia, part of my map collection). Interesting enough it included Jerusalem, Damascus, and Bagdad. Babylon looms large in this map .... i wonder what it looks like today.

What's your point ? Jerusalem is in the Bible. The state of Israel was created by the UN in 1948 although it's historical roots go back 4000 years. Do you think that the borders of countries should revert back to ancient boundaries ?

No point at all ... i just like old maps ... now i got one ... it actually shows all of Asia ... this is just a very small piece of it. I did find it interesting that Iraq used to be part of what ended up being today's Turkey. Another interesting point is: can you find Babylon on a modern map of Iraq?

I have an old bible that has 8 maps in it of the old names of cities & areas. It looks like what is now Iraq might have been called Babylonia at one time. Bibles are good for maps of that area. One in there shows the different empires, Assyria, Babylonia, Persia etc.

Yep, the book is falling apart. I will give a shot at it later. I supplied the link above which has similar info; & of course google bible maps for effect.
