Boondoggles for the Global Hand-job of Guilt

About: China, India Smile as West Overpays for Climate

Some of these schemes for the Kyoto Protocol carbon credits must have been invented here:
with profuse apologies to the pub.
source: ...
Sydney-based Easy Being Green says it will mitigate your cat's flatulent contribution to global warming for A$8 ($6). The same company could also make your granny ``carbon-neutral'' at A$10 a year, according to a report in the Australian newspaper last weekend.
... and many more!
 let the fun begin.

& we learn today that Algore pays his own organization for carbon credits where he may profit by more global warming schemes. These carbon credits are not available to you and I.

People who are laughfing about global warming are missing the point and will be the butt of the joke in about 10 years.  The point is not whether global warming is real, or even whether we can (or should) do anything about it.  The point is that one way or another we will be retooling our entire energy economy.  The smart money is getting in on that bonanza. and are laughfing all the way to the bank

Yep, & the gold mines & oil wells along with the Brooklyn Bridge will all be available along with some guilt purging stocks in boondoggles. Nice try. Anything with Ted's picture on it is my clue to go in the opposite direction. So far the only one I have heard or watched that has a shred of credibility in the celebrity area is Daryl Hannah & apparently she lives her talk!
i guess you don't watch CNN or the empire that he created and sold. I will bet on his pick 100 times more often than i would bet on your track record.
Yep, I don't watch CNN unless I happen to be flipping channels. Basically Ted is a drunk & bipolar loudmouth nowadays! The only thing he did good, imho was fuck Jane Fonda & that was for the wrong reason.
Seriously, I applaud good ventures like alternative energy. I abhor government mandated boondoggles like energy credits. I like personal conservation & like clean water, air, & dirt as long as governments stay out of the way. I also like apple pie. American ingenuity will solve these problems in due time if the government stays out of the mix.  The market will suck up good, reliable & affordable ecologically sound products without politicians passing laws to make them do it!

Apparently, Seth you have missed the first part of the article here where Gore pays his own companies $$$ as carbon offsets.  Presumably some day his companies will get a
round to planting trees or building windmills.  Until then it's all a shell game and a lot of hot air!
The way carbon offsets work is that you purchace them with "$$$", and there is nothing wrong with founding companies, in which you are the pricipal investor, to do R&D to solve the problem.  In fact that is just exactly what needs to be done.  So i don't "get" the thrust of your accusation here.   Where is your evidence that "Gore's companies" are not doing exactly what what he says they are doing right now?
One could ask what an investment firm & hedge fund -  Generation Investment Management  has actually done to plant a tree or remove CO2 from the air.  It's just another shell. What is your evidence that anything has been done at all ? See this article that triggered the original response from me. I also wonder if Al Gore has actually paid any carbon credit money into his investment firm.
Do you want to resurrect Common Logic, Inc. and call it a Carbon Credit investment company ?

How much more insulting can you get? I do not respect Algore at all! He is a person who nobody would listen to except that he was once vice president & he was a documented liar then.  He wants everyone else to live differently than he does. Daryl Hannah's new eco-video blog is here. I will comment more when I watch it all.  I heard her on Hannity on the radio & was somewhat amused or impressed. Apparently she lives in a small 2 bedroom house with grey water system, solar panels & drives a biodiesel car.  All those things we used to think about at PJ2 & thought about building.  Unfortunately biodiesel still pollutes as any other internal combustion process will do except perhaps Hydrogen.

It's not the boondoggel that will get u in the end ... that's just schoolyard slang.  It's the Koyaanisqatsi. It's the cumulative and collective sloth, greed, and privacy of the human species that might be our undoing.  It's the mentality that builds an economy that requiers the continual increase of the GNP measured only in dollars. It's the mentality that fears that going down for more than one month at a time.  It's the mentality that looked upon measurements of climate as the problem and as threatening that God Almighty GNP figure; rather than looking first at the enterprise and oppurtunity of engenering changes.

Who knows there may be some kind of hyprocracy here.  However i don't think it is fair to just make that assumption without hearing the other side of the coin. What would be informative is if you would present what Gore is saying in defense of his allegid resusal.  Me thinks that communicating that way gets us at least one step in the direction of eliminating propoganda bias.
Well, since you claim to have the transcript from the testimony in congress, the invitation exists for you to find it.  I suspect that Gore thinks there are should be one set or rules for us peons & another set for himself, being the savior of the world.

Obviously i can do it, but then that's just the same old spin against spin.  In forms where people are actually searching for a better truth, it is customary to present both sides of the argument.  I'm sure you have read those kinds of papers.  But, hey, if you are just spinning, go for it.
Well, I thought you had it - apparently not! Here is another article on Gore's special treatment that has been observed.  The main point is that whatever Gore could come up with, whatever nuance in his behavior, he wants to live by different rules.  Do you think that he should live by different rules no matter how he spins it ?
I though you knew the difference between spin and facts - apparently not!  Your question "Do you think that he should live by different rules?" just begs the question whether he said that. So what did he say re this? Pointing to another spin article does not get us any closer to the truth.  Instead quote him in context.

Silly man!  Do you expect Gore to admit to hypocrisy out loud ?
No, but maybe he is not a hypocrite ... you certainly have not proven the case that he is here.  What has he actually said (in context), what has he actually done?  Once we know that, then we can make a judgement ... and let the facts fall where they may.
Is not his private electricity consumption evidence ? Is not his jet-setting carbon profile outrageous for someone who wants to control yours & mine ?  Whatever he says cannot assuage such facts!  He should give way to Daryl Hannah as the spokesperson. She is more believable & better looking IMHO.
  Maybe use his internet more!
Yes one can assume that because of his life style he is consuming lots of energy.  But where has he proposed that people can not live at that energy level?  Nobody would make such a revolutionary proposal ... well maybe i would, but i'm pretty sure that Gore has not.  I think if you delve into the facts of the matter you will find that he has purchased carbod offsets to compensate.  Carbon trading is one of the statagies that has been proposed and that Gore is supporting.  If those are the facts of the matter (one obviously needs to go check), then I can see no inconsistency between what he is saying and what he is doing.  If you want to find the hypoccrites look for those people living the high life and while believing in global warming have done nothing to decrease their consumption nor purchased carbon offsets.  When i get a i will report on my own efforts in that direction.  You of course are exempt because you apparently don't believe that we have a problem.

Thanks for the reference.  But I still don't get how that he is a principal in the company is any kind of hyprocracy.  The whole point of the retooling effort is to make it a boone for the economy ... that Gore is actively involved in actually doing that is to his credit.  But if this management company is not doing valid R&D and/or is not working actively to decrease green house gasses right now, then that would be a valid news story.  I hope to delve into this in persuit of a better truth as time permits.
Maybe you also can get some clues from the junkscience article above. He has probably only been doing it since 2007 because people have pointed out his own carbon footprint recently!

I haven't heard of a methanol craze anywhere - ethanol, maybe. ... Originally, W was interested in hydrogen which is about the only thing that can be burned without causing anything more than water vapor to go into the air.
Sorry about saying "methanol" i meant ethanol.  Yes hydrogen is the cleanest to burn, but it is not really an energy source ... it is  best thought of as an energy transfer mechinism ... and as such it sucks.  Unless sombody can invent a way to effeciently generate hydrogen and make safe fule cells, it is pretty much a dead end.

I haven't heard of a methanol craze anywhere - ethanol, maybe. It makes cleaner burning gasoline presumably. Originally, W was interested in hydrogen which is about the only thing that can be burned without causing anything more than water vapor to go into the air. But then there is the Hindenburg effect & it takes more electricity to make hydrogen than it's worth it. The nuclear power industry burns nothing at all! But, then there is the terrorism effect.
Non-polluting energy sources are:
  • wind power
  • solar power
  • geothermal power
  • nuclear power (if you figure out what to do with spent fuel)
  • ocean/wave power
  • hydro-electric (not nice according to the greens)
  • some kinds of fuel cells

You can hear how Gore started to respond to this on You Tube now.   Unfortunately Inhofe rudely obstructed his answer.  Watch it yourself, if you have any respect left for Inhofe, let me know.

Mark de LA says
Sorry, I have no respect for Gore!  So where has he responded, if he cares, in writing or actually in sound bytes elsewhere ?  The liberals stacked the hearings, I would be surprised if anyone was allowed to disagree.  Remember that Gore delivered his written notes too late for anyone to pre-read & ask cogent questions - as was the regular rules of that body.

Mark de LA says
seth 2007-03-27 15:00:36 6167
Having no respect for Gore's adgenda does not justify being rude to him in the hallowed halls of Congress.  Asking someone a yes or no question similar to "Have you stopped beating your wife?" and then obstructing the person's attempt to contextualize their answer tells us volumes about Inhofe's respect for getting at the truth of the matter.  You can be on either side of an issue, but this kind of behavior just makes Congressmen look bad.  If this was a democrat, no doubt, you would be all over it.

The point is that Gore was given special treatment so that the propaganda being waged by the liberals would get to the media without objections & without serious questions. It is Gore who did not want anyone to get to the truth! Gore never wants a serious debate! He wants it to be a "moral issue" so that his shoddy, bullshit science won't get an examination.
