Bill Maher's x-joke writer nails the liberal mindset.
I will bet that Seth can't watch the whole thing.
Anyway somewhere around minute 6-8 there is literally the right-wrong game blamed for war. It is also shown throughout the that moral relativism & lack of criteria for right-vs-wrong is the basis of the liberal mindset. Q&A starts around minute marker 34.

Human rights for apes now ?  Why not - they already give them to liberals ?

Mark de LA says
An example from this morning's newspapers - San Francisco bans plastic bags.  The new state communism has risen - your life will soon be fully regulated. I wonder how many additional trees will get cut down to make paper bags to make up for the difference? (or additional cotton grown to make canvas bags; or oil based nylon.... etc)

Well i did listen to the whole thing.  The problem with this kind of qusi logical political rhetoric is that it mixes (ANDS)  truth with fallacy.  It uses characterizations about Liberals that they would not accept for themselves.  But, of course, those in his audience will accept them without question.  He then uses that logic to lend credance to his conclusions.  But (true AND false = false ), that is the way you must reason if you are trying to be reasonable.
For example:
(1) "None of the ideas that man has come up with has created a world devoid of war poverty, and injustice."  is a true statement.
(2) "The the real cause of war, poverty, injustices must be found in the attempt to be right."  is a false characterization of what a Liberal might think.
(3) Does not justify that: Liberals must prove that right is not right and must tear down what is good and elevate what is evil.

It's too bad that he used so much of this erroneous quasi logic, because he did hit on some good points.   If you strip out all of his erroneous characterization of liberal though, and require that he not AND questionable premises with obviously true ones to arrive at conclusions, then it might make an interesting train of though to analyze.

Btw,
Liberals strive for tolerance, (not indiscriminateness).
Liberals fight terrorism.
Liberals are for human rights, (not government cart blanch).

And let me leave you with a song that i have always liked.

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Perhaps to understand this song it is best to grok what it does sing about rather than to characterize it by what it doesn't imply.

I can easily identify the cause of war as the RWG or the attempt to be right (your #2). If you do not discrimminate & choose one side or the other as right then you must be eating that moon pie in the sky. The alternative is that you might be so Zen & enlightened that you can see everything as ONE, but then you probably would not be blogging.
So far, the liberals who get the media coverage & who are most vocal tolerate only their own point of view - there are thousands of such examples. (Present company possibly excepted
) BTW these of yours are ANDing cabbages & peanut butter or not in evidence:

Liberals strive for tolerance, (not indiscriminateness).
Liberals fight terrorism. (you wouldn't know it from the current congress)
Liberals are for human rights, (not government cart blanch).

Thanks for the lyrics - I do have the album somewhere;  I suspect that it helps to be stoned on acid to grok them.

Cutting to the chase: We can generalize the cause of war to be an inability to get out of a zero sum game like: i-win-you-loose, that's mine not yours.  That is pretty close to your RWG. The words that Sayet erroniously sticks in the liberal mouth are "the real cause of war is the attempt to be right".  But a liberal would never say that.  The way i would say it is: "I discriminate right from wrong for myself, but not for the other guy.  That is called tolerance.  It is a respect for otherness.  It is a ethic in the world which works to get us out of a RWG loop.  But what it is not, is indiscriminateness.  Try not putting words in my mouth that i would not say, that may help this dialogue go somewhere.

Seth says
I don't share your opinion that "being outside the RWG is only possible for a few brief moments at a time".   Imho, for some people it is a way of life.  Nor, imho, is "tolerance just a statement about how much you are willing to accept"; rather for some people it is a deep respect for otherness and the rights we have to be soverign individuals.  Also I do not know any liberals who would say that "nobody is wrong and that everything is morally relative & equivalent".  Rather, me thinks, a liberal would stress that one's ethics are relative to the culture in which one is emersed and then they would work on that culture to imporve it such as not to infringe on the rights of soverign individuality.

But you are right about the cheap trick of conservitives in their belief in absolutes.   It is true that a conservitve tries to be stong and right.  Sometimes we need that strength.  Sometimes it just goes in a loop.

Mark de LA says
The biological/neurological or soul-bound necessity to be right, not wrong, etc. IS the RWG.
We have not evolved as humans to where being outside the RWG is possible for more than a few brief moments at a time (just like brilliant self-consciousness).  We have discussed this possibility before.  Besides possessions, the RWG applies to beliefs & religions & power.  It applies to both liberals & conservatives; liberal denials notwithstanding . They only serve to illustrate!
The cheap trick most often associated with liberals is to get around the RWG by saying that nobody is wrong - everything is morally relative & equivalent.  The cheap trick for the conservatives is to draw a black & white where evil exists with morality as absolute; possibly divinely ordained.  Each has it's problems & nobody escapes the RWG!
Tolerance is just a statement about how much you are willing to accept - where you draw the line personally.  I doubt seriously you would tolerate a white robed & hooded KKK member burning a cross on your front lawn for very long no matter how much you cherish your tolerance.

HA..Ha..ha ! ... I rest my case.  Thanks for the examples.
