You shouldn't really look for intentions in this kind of general historical map study that i do ... i am just a map feark. I had purchaced the 1924 Atlas and this ended up being the most interesting map that i found in it ... so in that regard it was something interesting to scan and publish. The map is not really all that good. Yet it shows what this area looked like in 1924. The one i discovered this morning is a much better map and shows what the area looked like ca 1050 bc. For your animation you might take a look at Imperial History of the Middle East at maps of war.

In the context of the Middle East, Palestine & multiple religions claiming their holiest sights in Jerusalem, the National Geographic Channel had this special airing last night & maybe tonight. It was very interesting.

Yep, that's what the digital zoom project is all about

. I find that seeing the natural terrain does not pop out at you as easily as you might think on GE. Here is a topological map where the terrain pops out better. Note how the Litina river pops out on more subjectively drawn maps ... me thinks that natural boundary is still importaint today ... yet it is not hard to see on GE ?

Here is another one where the geological features pop out more. Note that they are always subjective (to the map maker). Which is more accruate ... the subjective maps, or the ones that are based on instrumental readings?

If you are ever interested in the Jewish question you might watch the series Saddam Hussein and the Third Reich ... I saw it on the History Channel & they are connected directly. The whole series is pretty good & traces some of the modern day problems to WW-I forward.
