One World or None

About: one world or none

I discovered this publication in the archives.  It is interesting from the perspective of the beginning of the Atomic Age and looking back how far we have gone to arrive back at the beginning.  It's around 79 pages (8x10) on newsprint.  Some of the texts are here but with inserted comments. I prefer them virgin without comments, but my copy is fragile.
This node may become a point of discussion for a create from nothing look at the challenge.  In the beginning it would be good to frame the notion in a positive fashion.  Suggestions are appropriate in the comments. One might be - "A world where all the former nuclear bombs & other such devices have been transformed into nuclear power plants free of pollution & defects with fool-proof processes & where no more such bombs or devices or WMD are ever made again".
Seth's 4909 is duly noted.
One World or None: ... It may be simpler, of course, to reach preliminary agreement among the strongest military powers than among all nations, big and small, for a body of representatives of all nations is a hopelessly clumsy instrument for the speedy achievement of even preliminary results. Even so, the task confronting us requires of all concerned the utmost sagacity and tolerance, which can be achieved only through awareness of the harsh necessity we have to face.

... Albert Einstein's tag line above. The context of terrorism had not yet arrived on the scene - 55 years later.
From the back cover of the book there is a New York Herald Tribune book review with a cartoon by David Low from The Nation:
The little baby's name is humanity.

I found an interesting book in the archives called Conquest of Violence - the Gandhian Philosophy of Conflict which may serve as an inspiration, but not a cookbook.

The only way to achieve a world without nuclear weapeons is for those countries with nuclear weapons to dismantle them.   Strangely enough they have already signed a treaty to do so.   Unfortunately they have not followed through on their agreement.  Me thinks that is the primary problem facing the people of the world who don't want these weapons of mass distruction laying around.

I suspect any statement that begins with "....the only way ..." as unimaginative at the least and, more likely, just a statement about the limits of the speaker.  We need more of 6831 & less of stances, pronouncements & fatwa by politicians, party hacks, candidates, unaccountables & other people who are really not involved but like to take pop-shots from the outside in blogs.  6831 needs a few good dedicated people who will give their lives, their love on behalf of humanity & their ALL in order to achieve the transformation of humanity such that the whole World is war-less & WMD-less.   It's a good time to sign up if you are one of those people!
BTW, dismantaling those that exist will do nothing to those who want them; & like some in the Middle East from getting them.  It might make it even easier through a black market in the parts.  There is also a necessity to deal with all WMD as well.

Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." (Matthew 7:1-5)
Yes yes yes, that is it.  Now could you explain to me why the West should not get rid of the nukes in it's own eye so that it can see clearly how to cast out the nukes from its Persian brothers eye?

Unfortunately you applied an analogy inappropriately.  It is one those things that is like the Golden rule - works well at the individual level but not with groups.  Groups members like nations don't think all alike.

Mark de LA says
Ancient comments on the RWG:

"Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam [is] in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye." (Matthew 7:1-5)

Again you are treating peoples & countries like individuals.  If his message had been at that level then the Romans wouldn't have crucified him.

Oh if a person acts in collusion with others, is he then exempted from hyprocracy?  You are attempting to avoid Jeasus's rule out of this on a technicality.

This is getting to be a tedious RWG off the main topic. I made the matthew quote for the purposes of illustrating the RWG & subsequently you proved my point! Thanks! Let's stay really on topic hereafter & try for those seconds when we can be out of the game.

Granted all members of a group do not think alike.  But those individuals in power in the four nations with nuclear weapons who have signed the NPT and who are now attempting to force Iran to stop enriching Uranium are being hypocritical in just exactly the way Jesus Christ brought to our attention via Mattew 7:15.

What is getting tedious for me is that every time i make a legitimate point you don't respond to it, rather you call RWG .... really Mark ... go back a look ... almost every f***ing time.

The point that i have been making all along with Nuclear jump list at FastBlogIt is that the current nuclear powers are being hyocrytical.  Now you quote Jesus Christ as authority for not being hypocritical ... yet you call RWG on my point.  Come on M, deal with the issue and not some semantics misstep of mine or some technicality that is really irelivant.  And please don't change the subject.  Is the West's development of their own nuclear bombs while insisting that others may not develop them not a hyprocracy according to Mathew 7:15?  And if it is hypocritical, why wouldn't eliminating that hyprocracy advance the cause of "seeing clearly" just as Jesus has taught us?

Mark de LA says
Seth, keep on calling people liars & hypocrites  ... that will surely persuade & get people on your side. Your argument is specious - get off it!

Mark de LA says
If you can't grok that different rules apply going from the microcosm to the macrocosm then look at the difference between Newtonian physics & Quantum physics.
