Don't get it ... what has this to do with Algore?
Algore in his first book wanted gas prices to rise (like your cement solution) so that people would conserve gasoline & pollute less!
So how does crude go down in Gore's plan?   Oh i get it ... you have a artistic license to rag on Gore.  In any case Gore didn't want it ... it's just what any sane person can see will inivitable happen sooner or later.  Crude will go up and up ... gas will go up and up and up ... only thing that is comming down is solar ... that will start dropping dramatically.
Nope! That was his solution.  Did you read his Earth in the Balance ?

i didn't read it.  Why don't you report the exact quote in context.  Otherwise i suspect another case of misrepresentation like the one you propogated about the invention of the internet.

Mark de LA says
Some people with nuances for truth should become familiar with this clip.  Maybe he never in this clip said he invented the internet, but he said he took the initiative in creating it.  I take issue even with that latter idea. He did neither, your attempts to rewrite history notwithstanding. In this vein, it probably would not be worth my time to find an exact quote from his book - I certainly won't buy it.

Why has this letter from Vinton Cerf, who was there and should know, not cleared up those issues for you?
Why should it? Algore was just trying to embellish his resume?

Because, according to  ...
 Vinton Cerf
Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the  Internet and to promote and support its development.
Do you not believe Vinton Cerf?  I'm just really trying to figure out the source of your complaint and how you arrived at your opinion and why you will not change it specifically in this regard.  Certainly Al Gore is trying to embellish his resume ... and in 1999 -2000 he was running for president and wanted to take credit for promoting the Internet.  Apparently according to Cerf, who was there, he actually did promote it.  So how you can continue to doubt it?

Mark de LA says
The funny thing is that I had already heard of the internet long before I ever heard of Algore. What did he actually do to promote or further the internet ?  Whatever he did, what results were achieved?  The internet was recognized by businesses & individuals as potential for commerce & social connections long before Algore came up on the radar.

The email i cited above answers you questions about what he actually did.  The result is clear, the US government supported and underwrote the Internet.  Al Gore is not making the claim that he was the only one or even the first.  But it is clear he helped the process along at a critical time in the early growth.  What more do you need?

As I read the email it sounds like a lot of fluff one would write on a resume without much that is specific. Maybe Algore recognized what networks could do & maybe he was envisioning just "networks".  Just because this guy calls it the internet doesn't mean it is the Internet that we think of today.  I was working on some information networks in '68 with the navy & that was long before Algore.  I view the email is just a friend of Gore's hype trying to rewrite one of Algore's hyperboles. I will accept that you are an Algore partisan & leave it at that.  There is no real good reason to continue this thoton unless Algore tries to run for president again.

My concern is about the integrity of what you say you believe.  It seems to me that you have your mind made up and nothing that is uncovered will change it.  Yet you do not justify with any facts what went into making up your mind.   I'm just curious about the process you are going through and wondering whether it has anything to do with the truth or not.  This is not a rwg game here for me ... who comes up with the facts is immaterial.   I wish you could  correspond with me without making the assumption that this is about showing me or Al Gore up and stop comming up with rationalizations justifiying your conclusions.

For me  that letter provides a authoritive respected source saying that "Al Gore was the first political leader to recognize the importance of the  Internet and to promote and support its development" ... he does give specifics without being pedantic about it.   I'm just so very curious .... Why you don't accept the situation given by Vinton Cerf as overiding your own opinion?

Mark de LA says
Your email is not specific at all.  That's what the group UnhackTheBrain is all about; being able to tell the difference.  Your expert didn't say anything specific enough to prove that Algore did anything at all; just a lot of generalizations that would convince any member of the Algore "choir" but not someone from the outside like me. Name one thing that Algore did which actually furthered the Internet.  Being part of the cheering section for the Internet does not count. If he actually passed a law, what was it's SB# and text or a link to same. Was he the primary sponsor or did he just sign it like everybody else ?  One thing I know he had something to do with was the plugging of schools which was mostly a boondoggle leaving us still with taxes long after the primary task had already been accomplished;  long after the Internet had already been created!

And then those of you who live in scarcity here is an alarm button for you:

Maybe there is going to be a scarcity of scarcity! Wouldn't that just put the Chicken Little in you all out of business!

I also watched a science channel report on the methane hydrate (and other hydrocarbon hydrages) in the Gulf of Mexico.  Seems that some estimate that there is about 200 years worth for the good old USA (if it's still around) at the bottom of the ocean.
