google base products for Speak To Me Catalog

See the product search here (too bad they kind of bury their product search page) and their blog announcement here.  I will be making, (probably an Atom 1.0 feed) for Speak To Me Catalog to bulk upload.  Stay tuned.  It will probably be a mutation of speaktomecatalog.com/rss.xml and a mashup with fastblogit.com/feed.

testing in www.speaktomecatalog.com/db/gen_atom.php

Upload was successful - upload another bulk file heresee items here. and they should show up on a search of here.  Items expire in 30 days from upload.

To validate feed (and remove special characters) upload speakatom.xml to blindaroundthesound.org and use this feed validator.

Here is the final procedure:
  1. Hit /feed/gen_atom.php (too bad, you can't do it, only i can)
  2. FTP from /feed/speakatom.xml back to c:/speaktomecatalog.com/feed/speakatom.xml
  3. Go to Google upload page here.
  4. Hit Uploads/Manual/upload file ... browse to it locally as in (2) above
  5. Click upload and process
  6. check progress on this page.
  7. and that they show up here.

More changes to be made ...
source: email
Hello,

We'd like to let you know about an important change we're making to the Product Search data feed requirements. As you know, you can help shoppers find your products by including high quality, frequently updated product information in the form of attributes.  In order to provide shoppers with the most useful information, we'll be making the "condition" attribute required starting on June 30th, 2009.

In order to keep your feeds active past this date, please remember to include the "condition" attribute for all of your items if you're not already doing so.  Please include one of three values to describe your product: new, used, or refurbished.

For more information on formatting the condition attribute, please visit http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=148684

In addition to making the "condition" attribute required, we've made some other changes to our attributes:

Recommended: "product type"
The "product type" attribute allows you to specify a product category for each item. We recommend that you use our product taxonomy, however, you are welcome to use your own categories.  For more information, please visit: http://base.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=66818

New: "compatible with"
The new "compatible with" allows you to specify what products your item is compatible with.  For instance, if you're listing an HP 74 (CB335WN) black ink cartridge, you can use this attribute to tell us that it's compatible with the HP Photosmart C4480 and HP Photosmart C4580 printers.  Using this attribute will help you avoid listing the same item multiple times with different compatibility information. For more information, please visit

Sincerely,

The Google Product Search Team

I officially submitted the following form to Google Support Center ...
source: Re: [#693730867] private email link
When i include a valid enclosure in my Atom feed you reject it.  The enclosure would be in the form <link rel='enclosure' type='audio/mpeg' href='%s' length='%s'/>.   You should not reject entries for this reason.  Please note that my current feed does not have any of these links, but the previous sumbmission had them and they were rejected because "too many attribute values for attribute: link".  But that is the valid way to put podcasts into a Atom feed.  You used  to accept these.  Then sometime around July you started rejecting them.  Why are you breaking the standard  ??
... so far have gotten their automated response.  I doubt that they will fix it, they will prolly give me a song and dance, but we will see ...

Sometimes me thinks that the programming of the #LinkedData world is too brittle.   Here is a case in point ...
source: my report of a problem to Google Merchant Center
My atom feed has been accepted month after month but now most of my items have ended up rejected for the reason: "too many attribute values for attribute: link".   It seems like the products  which were rejected had the additional link element for an enclosure; because when i took out those out all of the products were accepted.  But it is entirely legitimate for there to be 2 links in a atom feed one for the rel='alternate' and one for the rel='enclosure'.  The Google merchant center has been accepting those for over a year.  Why now are those legitimate enclosures which validate through the validator.w3.org/feed suddenly being rejected by the Merchant Center?     How can i put them back in my Atom feed  such that the Merchant Center will accept them  ?
...
Google merchant center is still rejecting valid enclosures  in Atom feeds :(

Oh well, we just need to move on.

Note that my current gated program that generates my speak to me catalog feeds does not include the podcasts so that it can be used over at Google.  Apparently this will have to do until Google can find their to do the right thing.
