The Eco Religion

About: sundance channel : video player : big ideas for a small planet: pray 1

When chicken little screams the sky is falling folks at the sundance channel worship at the church of the great Eco where Algore is his prophet.  Too bad none of them trust God.  I like how the little munchkins get brainwashed in their own churches, synagogues & mosques - true unity in religion.  Can see it on demand at Comcast under the Sundance channel.
Too bad we don't have an emotey for vomit

Well i feel strongly that worshiping nature is the best attitude that I can adopt to the cosmos.  If that makes Ecology my religion, then so be it.  Nor do i trust in God to solve the problems of growth on this planet ... as far as i can tell the almighty has left the care of the Earth in our hands.

Most of the content at the Sundance Channel is about conservation, which is something that we all should get serious about.   I think getting this awareness out there is a good thing.  Recently i became aware of the enormous waste conspicuous consumption of bottled water ... our family had fallen into the trap ... and the solution is so simple and saves so much money.  I thank NPR for calling it to my attention.  Perhaps there are things that your family can do as well.  Or are you trusting that God will just let us continue to our consumption explosion with no adverse consequences?

I give Sundance Channel a thumbs up.

Worshipping nature is back to the Pagan.  They used to sacrifice babies to make the rain favorable or the storms go away.  Good Luck! Admitting that it's your religion belies any further attempt to convice us that there is a scientific basis to your arguments!

Respecting nature and using using the scientific method to predict and plan events are not mutually exclusive.  Do you think they are?   There is no sacrifice of babies in my beliefs.  But there is a faith in good science, careful engineering, and healthy commercial enterprise.
Making a religion of something means that beliefs overtake rationality which is very typical of the left & their church of the falling skies. Faith & beliefs are NOT science.  You have a mashup of contradicting paradigms going for you.

Don't forget that the left making "ecology a religion" is just a propoganda idea invented by Ann Coulter to sell books -- it has no substance in reality.  There is absolutely no connection between respecting nature and letting beliefs overtake rationality.  We all must have faith that the physical, and social mechinisms in which our lives are ensnared work.  Eventhough every so once in a while a person will loose that faith .... then we label the person crazy or paranoid.  But those of us who have gotten close enough to science and engineering to know that it frequently works, do believe in the process.  That belief is quite different than a ferverant faith in religious dogma. There is no contradicting paradigms going on here whatsoever.

I hope you watch (the Sundance Channel) or see the internet version of religious leaders lending their authority to the "new religion" - it's pretty sick.  I watched most of the Sundance channel's green series.  There are lots of interesting ideas.  Some of them are mere fads & don't make sense. Some might be worth exploring as some of us did in the warehouse.  Brainwashing little kids with the authority of a religion, but the politics of the left is sickening.  At one of the extremes is a nut who is trying to examine the idea that getting rid of all the humans on the Earth will make the planet survive longer & in his warped mind that is good. Ugg - I suggest he & his ilk volunteer to pave the way with their own believers, first!

Saying that climate theory is already proved and cannot be questioned is the paradigm of a religion
True, but then no reasonable scientist woluld say that.  A real scientist knows that you do not "prove" a theory; rather it is a process of improving methods of measurement and prediction.  Climate theory is getting to the point where predictions are being validated.

Well then don't listen to Robert Kennedy Jr or Al Gore.  The other day RKjr was calling people who don't accept global warming theories traitors & treasonists. But, then they aren't scientists, just alarmists.

I hope you watch (the Sundance Channel)
I haven't spent much time on Sundance, nor do i intend to.  But I watched a coulple of clips and did not have the revolting reaction that you did.  The first clip i watched was some kind of burial scheme that did not appeal to me.  The second was one about trash, and  that looked pretty reasonable.  I don't see any problem with people respecting the Earth and her creatures.  I don't see any problem with appealing to people to change their destructive behaviors in a way that they understand.  Perhaps the site is a wierd blend of ecology and religion.  Me i like my ecology and science unferted with dogma ... so i guess i see your point.

Btw, if you honestly follow your awareness of calling ecology a religion back to where it first entered you mind, i will bet that you can trace it to something Ann Coulter said or to sombody who read what she had written.  But i know it is hard to trace a thought back to its source, so many people just assume that they thought up the meme themselves.  One way you could do it would be to remember the date of your first thought in that regard, then compare that to the date that Coulter started talking about her book.
