What would be fun to do ...

Install fastblogit on another domain with a separate database and see how inter domain interactions behave.

There are lots of places in the code that would need to be modified, but if someone wanted to do this i could swiftly evolve the code such that is groks its own domain.

Incidentally what is the name of the system that fastblogit is running ... we need a name independant of the domain.

Incidentally the code is © Seth Russell

i thought it was fastblogit.com

Seth says
fastblogit.com is a domain name ... this system wants to be inter domain .. there are lots of money making oppurtunities should we be able to franchise it

Mark de LA says
icybermind.net is one

Seth says
This is more of my canpaign to factor the domain name out of the internet.

Seth says
icybermind.net is one
Go for it

Mark de LA says
still probably the same database

Mark de LA says
you have all the access needed for icybermind.net - it's on your server

Seth says
Hmm ... what would be the syntax for a inter domain square bracket reference ?

 group icybermind.net/mark ???

Seth says
Mark: still probably the same database

Nope, the whole point is to use a different database.  If the system is installed on foo.net then they will have their own db.  If the db is the same then it is really just a mirror site and it would not matter which domain you accessed it from, you would always see exactly the same thing except for the domain name in the uri.

Mark de LA says
Remember the wiki has interwiki as well

Seth says
Actually it would be fun to do it both ways ... see if using the same db makes it totally a mirror and there are not functional probs with references.  Then do it using a different db and see if the inter domain references work and if the linguistic space feels like it is being shared.   Are we not saying that items will flow automatically form one system (db) to the other ?  So that if i tag a item "tits' in fastblogit is shows up in s tits at icyberspace.net, even though it is a different db.

Then too this might be a matter of group preference.  In fact it prolly should be some statement the group makes that causes the items to flow from one domain to another.

Seth says
interwiki has much more profound restrictions on names than i am prepared to accept.

Mark de LA says
I can't tell whether icyberspace.net uses the same mysql db as fastblogit.com

Seth says
I can't tell whether icyberspace.net uses the same mysql db as fastblogit.com
yes it does. There is only one MYSQL server running on our unix box at spry. There are several databases already running on it. The one named "products" serves the speaktomecatalog.com domain ... one called "fastblogit" serves this domain ... one called "wordpress" serves the can-you-hear-me.org blog ... etc. If you want to run a fastblogit on icyberspace, then just make a new database .. call it whatever u like .. and change the access to it on every php page .. those access parameters are usually very near the top of the php page.

Possibly unix/linux style group //icybermind.net/mark - or [group://icybermind.net/mark]

Seth says
... perhaps ... i am really keen on factoring the domain name out of this.  That is one of my primary motivations.

If all domains that are running cyber blogit software must share their databases behind the scenes according to the whims of the groups.  Then a reference to Suggest that each person tell some of their story in a separate item should be good regardless of whether the item titeled "mark" was entered at fastblogit or at  dave's blogit.  That is within a group that exists at fastglogit and also at dave's glogit and the groups have designated that they are in common.

Seth says
So i would like to see

http://fastblogit.com/tags/cybermind

be the same tag room as

http://dave.co.uk/tags/cybermind

Mark de LA says
You're still going to have to know how to jace from one server to another -OR- be hard-linked from one to another. I  see the server domain name always somewhere under the covers.

Seth says

Seth says
The domain is like the old bulliten boards of the 70's.   They lock your interactions within them.  The internet got us out of those little boxes.  There is only one internte, not zillions of independant bulliten boards.  Now the flow of  feeds can get us out of the virtual boxes that web domains still impose.

Seth says
Now the id element in the Atom feed is defined as the permalink. When that item is mirrored in some other domain it will retain that permalink id. This is good, because it means that if you vance on that permalink, you will find the origninal item in the domain context in which it was originally entered :)

Seth says
Well you still have the old hyperlinks from server to server; example domain specific link to a old tag room on robustai.net. But when someone makes an item over there, it lives "over there" only because it was inadvertantly originally entered over there. There is nothing about the item itself that locks it to that domain. It is a communication between its author and the rest of the community. But that community is not locked to a domain. Or rather that community is only locked to a domain in so far as it allows the technology of the web to dictate to it what can happen. That is not the choice it would make, were it free to choose otherwise.

Seth says
Now a permalink is locked to a domain.  This is necessary because the item number is unique only within the database on one domain.  I suppose that we could do that differetly and assign a global id to it immediately.  But i opted to go down this path first.

But tag rooms, title rooms, search rooms, group rooms have nothing in their intensional definitions that locks them technologically to one domain.  Hense, if it is the will of the community,  the network should make the extensions of those rooms identical.  Or at least as identical as the flow of time permits.
