Well there is some truth to the context that you have stuffed in Obama's mouth.  And that's why it sounds funny.  What's not funny is for Fox news spending hours trying to imply that Obama actually did speak from that context.  Twisting a person's context is one of the worst confusions one can interject in a political campaign.  It happens on both sides ... may it stop!!!

... translation ... What Seth doesn't like is that Fox news is one of the few news outlets that is not "in the tank" for Obamma!

So if Seth doesn't like the words Obama speaks he blames it on other people's context!

I wonder if Obama has an interesting context to explain what the meaning of the word "IS" is ?

Actually, Mark, if you think about it, twisting words to mean things not intended by their  author is just about the most destructive thing that one can do to communication.   But I still will not  disown you, my brother, for doing it with such zest, so very often.

SO, discontinuing the RWG for a moment, what is the correct context & meaning of Obama's words when he said (and he did) "a typical white person" when he referred to his grandmother?

what is the correct context & meaning of Obama's words when he said (and he did) "a typical white person" when he referred to his grandmother?
Here is a recording of what he actually said and here is my transcription of that ...
source: Barack Obamas words from an interview with sports radio 610 WIP in Philly
"the point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity. She doesn't. But she is a typical white person, who, if she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know, well there's a reaction that's in our experiences that don't go away and can sometimes come out in the wrong way. And that's just the nature of race in our society. We have to break through it.  We have to break through it and what makes me opimistic is you see each generation is feeling a little less like that and that is pretty powerful stuff"
That is the correct context of his words.  What he did not say way "Yeah, typical white person" in response to the question "So you're saying that your gramdmother is prejudiced and makes broad assumptions about people based on race?"

This ordinary Obama-ism, grammatically incorrect, is more suitable to Bandler than a Princeton or Harvard graduate.  Why did he use the term "typical white (female?) person"?  Literally he might be saying a "typical white person" has a reaction to somebody they don't know from their (previous?) experience.  This is true for most of us without the racist identity "white" . For me appending the racist identifier white to it made it racist!  How did the reaction sometimes come out "the wrong way"? Was that wrong way racist? What was wrong about it? - it must have been because he further says that's the nature of race in our society. The whole quote is tap-dancing around the issue about as hard as Bill Clinton did when he said "It depends upon what the meaning of the word IS is." during his testimony before the American people.  Literally it requires more words to explain than if he had been straight forward about the issue & is just another Rorschach statement - subject to anybody's correct interpretation.

Seth says
Saying that people have visceral racial reactions which come form their upbringing and experience is not "tap dancing around the issue" - it is acknowledging a fact that needs to be acknowledged for our nation move beyond it.  What is tap dancing around the issue is to boldly sweep race under some definitioal carpet as if that will solve any problem whatsoever, see 714, or to ignore it like most main stream politicians do today.   What you've missed in his message is the hope:  "each generation is feeling a little less like that and that is pretty powerful stuff".

Obama said to the nation what it needed to hear.  The message was not targeted to the demographics of a pole.  Sorry it was not the Sister Souljah moment that your demographic seemed to insist on hearing.  But it was true, and it was presidential, and it shows the kind of president we will be getting.

Boy, for a person who touts non distinctionism,  you sure do the opposite and continue to distribute memes that attempt to discredit Obama based upon his race ...
source: Conservatives Hate-Based Campaign Against Obama
For months, I've been predicting that conservatives would delicately prompt voters to see Barack Obama through the lens of race. They'd drop hints, they'd make roundabout arguments, they'd find a hundred subtle ways to encourage people to vote their prejudices, while denying vociferously that they were doing anything of the sort
It is so predicatble, and yet still so despicable.

Obamma became the candidate of race when he refused to disown the racist pastor of a racist church he belongs to & which continues it's racism.  Prior to that he was independent of race.  Now he continues to struggle for that part of his demographic.  He wants to have it both ways.
It is so predictable, and yet still so despicable to quote you, bro.
My apologies for the on-target distinctions of the cartoon. I will apologize stronger when Obamma apologizes for his "typical white person" remarks!
